Forschungen zur Byzantinischen Rechtsgeschichte

The editions, monographs and edited volumes in this series present the results of international research on Byzantine legal history. In particular, the series serves to publish the results of the research unit »Edition und Bearbeitung byzantinischer Rechtsquellen« of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, a research project originally started at the mpilhlt. Editions of shorter texts of Byzantine law as well as analytical essays are published in the sub-series Fontes Minores (12 volumes to date).

Since 2019, the series has been published by De Gruyter under the title Forschungen zur byzantinischen Rechtsgeschichte. Neue Folge. It is edited by Dieter Simon (former director at the Institute) on behalf of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The series has been published since 1976, first by Klostermann Verlag (volumes 1-7), later by Löwenklau Gesellschaft, Frankfurt am Main (volumes 8-36). Some contents of these earlier volumes are available online on the document server of the Göttingen Academy.
