The library is open to external users by appointment:

Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please note:
The library will be open until 3 pm on 04.12.2024 and will be closed all day on 06.12.2024.

With its comprehensive holdings and services the library of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory supports primarily the scientific staff of the institute. External users profit most all from the digital ressources (Digital Library). In addition the library is opened to all scholarship holders and scientific guests of the institute.

Other interested persons can use the library. However due to the limited number of workplaces in the reading room, external users have to prove that they have a serious scientific interest which only can be met by the use of the specialised library stock. For that reason we recommend the early submission of the application form. Further conditions you find in the regulations for library use in the download section.
