In this seminar series, Professor Jorge E. Traslosheros (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) will explore the judicial history of the Roman Catholic Church in viceregal Spanish America, with an emphasis on New Spain. This session will address the judicial dimension of the Church as a central component of the bishops' pastoral mission, characterised by the so-called "reform of customs".
Professor Traslosheros's presentation will be in English, but other languages are welcome during the discussion.
The seminar series will take place in hybrid form. Both on-site and virtual participation require registration at least one week before the session one wishes to attend. Last-minute registrations will be accepted only on an exceptional basis, depending of room capacity. One may apply for more than one session in the same act of registration. A reminder of the event will be sent to the participants the day before each session. For further information on the seminar sessions, please check the programme.
