Em meio à Reforma Católica nos Países Baixos espanhóis: As obras de Petrus Peckius (1529-1589) sobre as relações entre clérigos e mulheres

Esta pesquisa de doutorado centra-se na obra de Petrus Peckius, jurista e professor na Antiga Universidade de Leuven no final do século XVI. Analisa-se como Peckius adaptou suas obras de direito canônico para enfrentar os desafios decorrentes do seu contexto local, da Reforma Católica e dos decretos do Concílio de Trento.

Esta apresentação se foca um aspecto específico da investigação: os escritos de Peckius sobre as relações entre clérigos e mulheres. A análise centra-se principalmente no seu tratado contra o concubinato clerical, “De continentia clericorum sive de non alendis concubinis” (escrito c.1551), e em notas de sua aula sobre os privilégios do clero casado (c. 1576). Aqui, investiga-se sobretudo o enquadramento canônico de Peckius, a evolução das suas ideias e a sua relação com o contexto histórico em mudança nos Países Baixos espanhóis.

This Ph.D. research explores on the work of Petrus Peckius, a jurist and professor at the Old University of Leuven in the late-16th century. The research focuses on how Peckius adapted his work on canon law to address the challenges arising from his local context, the Catholic Reformation, and the decrees of the Council of Trent.

This presentation delves into a specific aspect of the research: Peckius's writings on the relationships between clerics and women. The analysis centers mainly on his treatise against clerical concubinage, “De continentia clericorum sive de non alendis concubinis” (written c.1551), and student notes from his lecture on the privileges of married clergy (c. 1576). The man focus here is on Peckius’s canonical framework, the evolution of his ideas, and their connection to the changing historical context in the Spanish Netherlands.
