Rites Controversy: An Entangled History of Normativity Between the East and the West

Over the years, the department Historical Regimes of Normativities has developed various perspectives, methods, and themes regarding global legal history (GLH), and conducted glocalized case studies distributed across Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe. From this starting point, we seek to continue an ongoing dialogue on some intersecting GLH topics (e.g., rites controversies) to transcend boundaries of our individual nations, epistemologies, and traditions, engaging in continual exchanges situated within entangled historical contexts and future expectations.

This lecture series is jointly hosted by the department Historical Regimes of Normativities and the two Max Planck Partner Groups –A Digital Global Legal History with China (Beijing) and The Production of Knowledge of Normativity and the Early Modern Book Trade (Trento).

All sessions are in English and take place online. Contact Sandra Michelle Röseler for more information on the organization.
