Workplace community versus class struggle. The ideal of low-conflict self-regulation in the Weimar Republic (provisional working title!)
PhD Project

The research project examines the ideal of consensual or low-conflict self-regulation at company level in the metal industry of the Weimar Republic. It starts from the observation that different actors sought to avoid open conflicts for different reasons. Procedures for conflict regulation and the attempts intended to achieve a ‘company community’ will be examined using work regulations, company collective agreements and other sources that provide information about industrial relations. The analysis of these sources also serves to illuminate the underlying considerations and interests of the actors involved.
