Dissertations on Jurisprudence = Tesis Doctorales en Derecho - Buenos Aires (1866-1903) – INHIDE

The collection of 19th-century dissertations on jurisprudence of the Instituto de Investigaciones de Historia del Derecho de Buenos Aires (INHIDE) comprises 49 volumes containing 287 doctoral theses defended at the University of Buenos Aires between 1866 and 1903. The length of the theses ranges from 16 pages (the shortest) to 353 pages (the longest). The collection totals 21,444 pages. In terms of areas of law discussed, civil law dominates (48%), followed by commercial law (21%), constitutional law (10%), procedural law (8%) and criminal law (6%). The remaining 7% of theses examine questions of mining, administrative, tax and international law, among other subjects. The collection offers a window into legal thinking at the University of Buenos Aires during a period of great dynamism due to the ongoing codification efforts of those years.
The digitisation of this collection is part of the research projects PICT 2014/3408 and PICT 2018-1670 funded by the Agencia Nacional de Promoción Científica y Tecnológica (Argentina).
