Curriculum Vitae
Martin O’Donoghue is a graduate of the University of Galway where he received his BA (2010) and MA (2011) before completing an Irish Research Council-funded PhD and graduating in 2017. He developed this research for his first book, The Legacy of the Irish Parliamentary Party in Independent Ireland, 1922-1949, published in 2019. The book was awarded the NUI Publication Prize in Irish History and was highly commended for the British Association of Irish Studies Book Prize.
He was the recipient of the National Library of Ireland Research Studentship in 2017/18, held in conjunction with the Irish Committee of Historical Sciences. After this, he held appointments at the University of Limerick (2018-19) and Northumbria University (2019-20) before working as Teaching Associate in Modern British and Irish History at the University of Sheffield from 2020 to 2023. He joined the Max Planck Institute in October 2023.
He was previously a visiting scholar at the mpilhlt (2022) and at the Arts and Humanities Institute, Maynooth University (2023). He was Academic Director of the Parnell Summer School in 2018 and 2019, and he currently serves as joint-treasurer of the Irish Association of Professional Historians.
