Jour Fixe extraordinaire: Jean-Louis Halpérin: History of the "Juristenstand" in Germany during the 19th and 20th Centuries

The wording "Juristenstand" is a German specificity that became very popular in the 19th and 20th centuries to designate all the jurists with an academic education. Does this word testimony the unity of professional lawyers, of their social and political commitments, of their conceptions of law? Has a true Juristenstand really existed or is it a representation to cancel the divisions between jurists? A socio-historic study, based on the succession of 7 generations of German jurists from 1800 to 2000, tries to show the different configurations of the legal professions in Germany during these two centuries and the transformations of the legal field by the means (or not) of the jurists' writings.
