The Evolution of Court Procedure 1100-1700 and the Judicial Use of Torture

In this seminar series, Professor Jorge E. Traslosheros (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) will explore the judicial history of the Roman Catholic Church in viceregal Spanish America, with an emphasis on New Spain. The closing of the seminar series will feature a special guest, Professor Kenneth Pennington (The Catholic University of America), who will address the evolution of court procedure and the judicial use of torture.

Professor Pennington's presentation will be in English, but other languages are welcome during the discussion. A commentary will be provided by Professor Traslosheros.

The seminar series will take place in hybrid form. Both on-site and virtual participation require registration at least one week before the session one wishes to attend. Last-minute registrations will be accepted only on an exceptional basis, depending of room capacity. One may apply for more than one session in the same act of registration.
