El largo brazo de la justicia episcopal: los jueces eclesiásticos regionales y los jueces comisionados

In this seminar series, Professor Jorge E. Traslosheros (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) will explore the judicial history of the Roman Catholic Church in viceregal Spanish America, with an emphasis on New Spain. This session will focus on the regional presence of the bishop's tribunal (the "Audiencia episcopal") by means of a number of judicial vicars.

Reading material: Traslosheros, Jorge (2022), Los hombres del obispo: vicarios y jueces eclesiásticos regionales. Michoacán, 1633-1666, in: Anuario de historia de la iglesia, 31, pp. 141-171.

Professor Traslosheros's presentation will be in Spanish, but other languages are welcome during the discussion. A commentary will be provided by Francesco Giuliani.

The seminar series will take place in hybrid form. Both on-site and virtual participation require registration at least one week before the session one wishes to attend. Last-minute registrations will be accepted only on an exceptional basis, depending of room capacity. One may apply for more than one session in the same act of registration. A reminder of the event will be sent to the participants the day before each session. For further information on the seminar sessions, please check the programme.
