Max Planck Lecture in Legal History and Legal Theory

Um der disziplinären Erweiterung des mpilhlt Ausdruck zu verleihen, hat das Institut eine neue Vortragsreihe ins Leben gerufen, die Max Planck Lecture in Legal History and Legal Theory.

Sechsmal im Jahr werden herausragende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus den Bereichen Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie eingeladen, um ihre aktuelle Forschungen zu präsentieren.   

Die Vorträge sind öffentlich und finden jeweils um 16.15 Uhr (an wechselnden Wochentagen) im Max-Planck-Institut für Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie statt.

This talk seeks to de-center existing narratives regarding enslavement, which traditionally focus on how it was practiced in North America and instead observe it both in the long durée and more globally. It asks about the various roles enslaved persons played in different times and geographical locations, as well as questions the assumption that slaves were property by setting enslavement on a larger canvas and by observing early modern debates regarding both the household and labor relations.
