Vita
Leonardo received a Bachelor's degree in Economics (2015) and a Master's degree in International Relations (2019) from the University of Bologna. He then obtained a PhD in Philosophy of Law from the University of Roma Tre (2024). His doctoral thesis provided an intellectual biography of the Scottish legal philosopher Neil MacCormick, focusing on his theory of constitutional pluralism.
During his PhD, Leonardo was awarded a scholarship from the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies and a 'Dialogue scholarship' from the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in the Department 'European and Comparative Legal History'. He was a visiting scholar at the Edinburgh Centre for Legal Theory at the University of Edinburgh. In 2023, he was awarded the EPP Postgraduate Research Grant for research on the history of European integration.
Leonardo joined the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in April 2024.
