Between Norms and Culture: Colonial Governance and Translation of Knowledge of Normativity in Portuguese India

This workshop will explore Goa as a colonial city and Portuguese India as a mediation space between different normative regimes. Focusing on the role of local actors in governance, we will discuss the translation and production of normative knowledge in the Estado da Índia. Scholars from various fields will contribute to this interdisciplinary discussion on how norms, practices, and concepts were appropriated, reinterpreted, and reshaped in this colonial context.
