From dust to drawing: Archival research and the ‘graphic’ revival of history

Richard Conyngham is the author of the graphic history All Rise: Resistance and Rebellion in South Africa (1910-1948) – an anthology of stories based on forgotten legal records which he brought to life in collaboration with seven South African artists. In conversation with Dr Karla Escobar, Richard will reflect on archival research, creative processes, and the power of the graphic medium to promote a more inclusive understanding of history and the law. His presentation will include artwork and source material from All Rise, as well as from a new book he is currently working on as a Max Planck Institute guest researcher.
