Jiaxin Li is a doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Research Group ‘The Hidden Heritage of the European Union: The Legacy of the Law of the League of Nations’ at the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory. Since 2025, he has also been an external doctoral candidate at the Amsterdam Centre for International Law at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests focus on the history of international economic law during the first half of the 20th century, regional economic integration in Europe, knowledge production in international and European law, and colonial dimensions in international commercial treaties.
Before commencing his PhD, he completed his bachelor’s studies in History and Law from Nankai University, China. He obtained a Master’s degree in European Trade and Commercial Law from Durham University and another in Public International Law from the University of Amsterdam. He worked as an Assistant Legal Researcher at the Amsterdam Law Clinic ‘Access to Justice for Gun Violence’. In cooperation with the T.M.C. Asser Institute and the European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights, he published legal memorandums on transparency issues in the international arms trade among European states. He currently serves as an external reviewer for the European Journal of Legal Studies.
