Kick-off Workshop ‘Law meets History' at the European University Institute

November 11, 2019

Members of the Research field ‘Legal History of the European Union’ have just returned from a productive kick-off workshop held at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence from 28 through 30 October 2019: ‘Law meets History: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Origins and Evolution of the Present-Day European Union‘.

Co-organised by the MPIeR and the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU), the workshop served as a forum of interdisciplinary academic exchange in the vibrant research environment of the EUI. Professor Vogenauer and the postdoctoral and PhD researchers from Frankfurt discussed ongoing projects, research collaborations and plans for potential future research with leading scholars from various departments of the EUI, including the Departments of History and Civilization, Law, and Political and Social Sciences, as well as the De Gasperi Research Centre, the Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, and the newly established School of Transnational Governance. The workshop also presented an occasion to foster the MPIeR’s successful collaboration with the Historical Archives led by Dr Dieter Schlenker. During a guided visit to the HAEU, the researchers from Frankfurt were able to learn about the processes for transferring source materials from EU institutions to the archives and for their declassification.
