Workshop: Synoptic Legal Knowledge. Visualizing and Analysing Textual Variants Across Languages

Instability was an essential feature of early modern books. Once printed, books were rethought, updated, and often translated. This was the case also for normative books. But how can we analyse this instability? How to explore the variants between different editions and translations of a normative text? How to assess the effects of translations of early modern normative texts?

Digital Humanities today can provide new possibilities of visualizing and analysing textual variant across languages.

Related to the project “Hyperazpilcueta”, the workshop aims to discuss with DH experts of textual variants and translation visualization and analysis (Tom Cheesman; Stephan Thiel; Roberto Rosselli del Turco; Federica Spinelli; Marcus Pöckelmann; Severine Gedzelman; Marianne Reboul), how new visualisation tools and textual analysis techniques could be adapted and used with early modern normative texts, thus improving the investigation of the different processes of transformation of early modern normative knowledge.
